Reasoning Skills Program (R.S.P.) is a program designed to help youth and their parents explore how the child currently makes choices based on their reasoning skills. The facilitator will explore options with the family on how to improve the youth’s reasoning skills. The hopeful outcome of the program is that the youth will practice their newfound reasoning skills and will have more positive experiences at home, school, and with peers. Core concepts of RSP include:

  • Confrontation of beliefs, attitudes and behaviors
  • Assessment of current relationships
  • Reinforcement of positive behavior and habits
  • Positive identity formation
  • Enhancement of self-concept
  • Decrease in hedonism and development of frustration tolerance
  • Development of higher stages of moral reasoning

Are you concerned with the choices your child has been making? Has your son or daughter already been in trouble at school or with the law?  Lakes Center for Youth & Families has been providing a Reasoning Skills Program for youth since 2014. The program consists of an average of 4-5 individual sessions with the youth and a parent/legal guardian. The cost for the program includes an initial meeting fee, the amount of sessions and program fees will be discussed during the first meeting.

Ideal candidates for the RSP program are youth on probation, students receiving multiple disciplinary referrals at school, and parents concerned with choices their child is currently making. A parent or legal guardian MUST attend all sessions with the youth.
